Thanking news features on our tributes to Dr. Clyburn from Sarasota Herald Tribune and SNN News. There is so much that I can say regarding the impact Dr. Clyburn had in my life. The fact that he humbled himself to even consider working with me was such an honor. He was way beyond his time, and possessed much talent. He truly was an empath; he cared for everyone.
Dr. Clyburn shared many stories of injustices, but also of how God turned several situations around. He taught me about the power of forgiveness and not harbouring feelings of malice towards those that wronged me.
He was surrounded by injustices, but continued to rise. He stood up for what was right, and dedicated himself to the work of inclusion and diversity.
Dr. Clyburn hated the spotlight. He knew the power in being competent and confident. He didn't need any accolades. So many times I would scratch my head in awe of the things he taught, and I would wonder why his knowledge wasn't being taught across the globe. He was a never ending well of wisdom, and was eager to learn even more.
I'm thankful that he had an open mind and was willing to entertain the idea of publishing his first book. He had SEVERAL books in mind; we tallied up about 4 more. He was intrigued with social interactions within society and where our nation was heading. However, he began to look up and look to the hills from whence came his help.
He had a wonderful way of balancing his life. He could study and write for hours, and then take time to enjoy gardening. He was happy, and taught me the beauty of being content.
It is Dr. Clyburn's hope, that the scholars of the future generation will continue to pursue a mesasge of hope and inclusion for our nation. I'm thankful he took a chance on my and my children. He poured nuggets of wisdom into Shekinah and Asa that will carry them in their adolescent and adult years. We are forever grateful and we miss him.
May you rest in peace Dr. Clyburn. Thanks for the wonderful stories, laughs, and spontaneous work sessions. I miss you greatly, and will always consider myself a part of the family.
Thank you to the Clyburn family for everything. I'll be here with you through it all.
Love,
India
